Orchids are one group of plants that are very addictive. Once you start collecting, there’s a big chance that you will be hooked for life. For these people dreaming about orchids is a natural thing. It is one of the side effects of being addicted to these amazing beautiful plants.
Orchid growers, enthusiasts and hunters dream of smelling, having and finding some of the rarest species of orchids in the world. But to regular people, what do orchids represent? I have done some research, and I found some really interesting stuff.
Some of the things I found about orchids and dreams are pretty close to how we see orchids. For example, they say if you dream of seeing orchids it symbolizes gentleness, romance, beauty, lust and sensuality. That is quite spot on, don’t you think? Since these flowers are basically that.
On the other hand here are some pretty surprising stuff about orchids and dreams:
- It is said that when one dreams of seeing or smelling orchids, this may suggest that one must curb or refrain from things that has to do with extravagance and luxury for it could cause you harm.
- Giving away an orchid in your dreams may mean you will soon get a “love note”.
- Some also say that when you dream of orchids, it may mean that there is a situation or relationship of great importance to you that needs much attention and care.
- Seeing multiples or a lush field of orchid flowers around you can mean you’re about to experience great amount of wealth and riches.
Dreaming of orchids may mean different things to different people. Some may find the meaning in the aforementioned descriptions; some may just be excited to have any interaction with these plants. But no matter what they mean for you, aren’t you just glad to see these flowers in your dreams? It provides some colorful and peaceful visions, unless you are having orchid nightmares. In which case I don’t know how anyone can be scared of these intriguingly unique plants.

I had a dream had a beautiful, extremely vivid dream of orchids…there were two and I had to find the perfect vase or some type of pottery to put them both in. I had to stake them so that they wouldn’t fall over. I finally found the perfect vase and carefully planted them. It seemed as if they were my children.
My dream was very colorful and extravagant.
I have 5 yr old identical twin girls, perhaps my dream represented my girls and the care I give to them. They are both beautiful little girls, like orchids. My daughters are very rare, like orchids. In my dream I was very concerned about the orchids falling over. My own interpretation is that the orchids represented my need tom that my grandfather was passing and did pass in my dream. I was with him as he passed, in my dream. I never told anyone about this dream until after his sudden death in March 1996. My grandfather died in my arms as I attempted to resuscitate him. I adored my grandfather, he was my ‘rock”. He was my father figure. I was the last face that he saw before he passed.
A few months after his death my mother, grandmother and I moved from Florida to North Carolina and I began working at a hair salon where we’d have fresh flowers delivered weekly for aesthetic reasons. Close to the first holiday season (1996) that we lived in NC, a beautiful arrangement of orchids were delivered. There were two with a few blossoms on each…the most vivid lilac and deep purple (almost fushia). After the holidays were over, I took the orchids to my grandmother. She loves flowers and when she was younger grew award winning African Violets. My grandfather had made her a very unique shelf with lights to display her violets. I knew that she would care for the orchids as if it were her child. She has. The orchid normally begins to bloom just before March, the month that my grandfather passed. It’s a pretty amazing thing.
Orchids are so beautiful and really do require nuturing as a child does.
It is coming up on the time of year that I had the dream of my grandfather’s passing. I ask myself, “Is this the reason for the dream?”… Whatever it means, it leaves me with a good/great feeling of nostalgia and absolute love, almost spiritual. As I am typing this, there is a segment on the morning news about Hawaii…known for it’s beautiful flowers.
It’s amazing how these flowers can become part of every aspect of our lives. I’m sure your grandfather is proud of you. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

In my dream i saw an orchid in a pot then grabbed by the stem and pulled out the pot. I also saw the roots what could that mean?
“To see orchids in your dream symbolize gentleness, romance, beauty, lust and sensuality. There is a situation or relationship that requires special attention and care. Alternatively, the orchid serves as a reminder that you are surrounded by wealth and riches.” Sounds like a good thing to me! 🙂 – Mary Ann
I have recently purchased my first orchid. As i was walking in the store there was such a strong connection towards this orchid i could not have let her go. I felt so happy and everything started going very well, i had a boost of confidence a new job. Every morning i tell my little lilly hello. Ever since i have her she bloomed out another flower and is actually in the making of a 7th flower. Making sure she is geting the best care, the other night i had a dream that my orchid had passed away and i was crying as if i had lost a loved one. I was completely heart broken. I woke up so grateful to have her! I dont understand how i can have such a strong bound to a flower as if there is an old soul living in her, what do you think the meaning of my dream can be?
Honestly, I’m not sure. It sounds like you really like this flower, and if something happened to it, you’d be very sad. So it’s probably just a dream about that fear. 🙂 I’m glad it is bringing you so much joy! – Mary Ann
I dreamed that the love of my life and I were at our wedding and there were orchids every where and I had a purple ribbon around my waist. I found this dream odd as purple has never been my favorite color and I have never had an orchid!
That sounds like a nice dream. Just for fun, I looked this up. Here’s the best thing I found, “For a young woman dreaming of decorating herself with ribbons, she will soon have a desirable offer of marriage, but frivolity may cause her to make a mistake.” Don’t take it too seriously! 🙂 – Mary Ann
Hello, I had a dream about orchid it was strange all through it was beautiful it was in a brown box but as I got closer to it .It grew it got taller it was white and beautifully blossoming. So, what do that mean?
Hi Denise – I’m not sure. 🙂 I’m not really trained in dream interpretation. My best guess is it sounds like something in your life is going very well or perhaps your orchid skills are very good and you are proud of that? But all I can do is guess. 🙂 Perhaps a search on Google would provide you with more answers. Thank you!! – Mary Ann
Last night I dreamt I walked into a room of orchids in bloom. It was so calming and beautiful. I didn’t want to leave.

Last night I dreamt that I met a group of people when I was out running errands of sorts. A lot large storm ensued which collapsed the structure we were in. Everyone survived. I suggested that the group I met come back to my house to collect themselves. I took them back to “my house” which I only saw inside, it was spacious, airy, clean, crispy & white with large windows. There was hardly any furniture, only surfaces and orchids were EVERYWHERE. They were. Lush, vibrant and all encompassing. My guests faces were astonished. I just felt right at home and at peace. It was beautiful.
That sounds like a lovely dream. 🙂 Thanks for sharing. – Mary Ann
I recently purchased an Orchid and it sits on my bedroom window sill. My girlfriend and I brought it together, me a pink Miltonia and her a white one. I chose the pink because they remind me of her and are my favourite flower, she chose the white one because it reminds her of me. My girlfriend was my best friend before we became anything more, she is terminally ill with cancer and unfortunately, it’s not looking good. Last night, I had a dream that my pink orchid died and I was holding it because there was nothing else I could do.
I’m so sorry to hear all of that. It sounds like you are worried and afraid, and I don’t blame you. Peace be with you. – Mary Ann
I had a dream where I had woken up late for something and made a mad dash out the door. When I stopped I saw a school bus sitting there waiting for me. Then I turned around and saw that I didn’t come out of my house, but out of a hospital. Then something fell right in front of me. I looked down thinking it was a butterfly and saw that it was a branch that had three light purple orchids on it. I’m not sure why but the whole thing made me uneasy…
That’s an extremely vivid dream. I hope you are able to figure out whatever it was that your brain was trying to work out. 🙂 – Mary Ann
