Did you know that orchids are one of the two largest families of flowering plants? The other being Asteraceae. Yet though there are over 20,000 types of orchids, and over 150 genera in America alone, we see the same purple and white blooms everywhere.
This inspired FTD to create A Compendium of American Orchids to show people the beauty and diversity of these local genera, and maybe even help you find your new favorite orchid.
And since we get asked to identify orchid types all the time, we thought you would enjoy this chart.

Would like a hard copy of this chart. I am very new to this fascinating Orchid world ; thus would be very useful.
Hi Barbara – you are welcome to print it. If you click on it, and then click on it again to make it larger, then hold the button Ctrl while you push the P key at the same time. Then it should print for you. 🙂 Thank you again! – Mary Ann
